Some Things about me

I like to learn, and I like to build things. Sometimes I repeat myself when I’m excited.

I’d be lying if I said I needed a purpose or reason for building something - the design and building process itself facinates me - but much like I stopped making my own long division problems in elementary school to start learning a more meaningful application of what I had learned, I’m striving to learn how to focus my efforts at seeing the bigger picture and discern where I’ve been invited to add some brush strokes.

When I look back can’t help but feel a mixture of wonder and nostalgia at all it took to bring me where I am:

• I played way too much of this game and learned a lot about goal setting and problem solving
• During my 4 years at LeTourneau University, I experienced the value of community and relationship
• My almost decade as a Structural Engineer has helped me grown in tenacity and helped me realize the importance and intentionality required for collaberation and coordination
• The years I spent brainstorming and designing Board Games and have learned how to think from a player or user’s perspective when it comes to User Interface and User Experience
• The time and effort I’ve spent on drawing has varied over the years, but it hasn’t ever completely vanished. It’s helped me learn to focus on what’s actually infront of me - without over complicating it - and not get crippled by perfectionism
• A habit of writing has also been a theme througout my life. It’s helped me develop an eye for strange connections I would have otherwise missed. The penetrating power of story has been a source of comfort and healing for places I couldn’t access on my own. I’ve also seen how much small consistent actions can add up to instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity when I have ‘enough time.’
• My time learning to play music and seeing the theory has helped me see the beauty when emotion and structure dance
• Developing a knowledge of coding has showed me tha value of a system and learning to learn something one step at a time
• Being a husband has helped me see the value of loyalty, vulnerability, and intentional pursuit
• My time as a father has helped me see the impact of consistency and compassion
